Rachel Monosov is a Russian artist who lives and works in Berlin. Her work centres on the analysis and detailed investigation of the concepts of alienation, territorial belonging, gender and identity. Her recent work Olympia draws inspiration from Leni Riefenstahl’s 1936 film Olympia and analyses the physicality of the moments preceding the beginning of the action and the seconds which pass between immobility and entering the form. The artist captures this sculptural moment of transition and works with the image of perfect bodies coming together at the starting blocks and at the finishing line.
