Manuel Focus rotates faces 180 degrees, turns arms and legs upside down, swaps the front and back parts of the body. Bodies borrowed from animals, disjointed creatures, headless humans and other unutterable categories. Masks of old men on the napes of three naked women transform them into a 12-footed organism, cancelling their identity and covering their faces with the artificiality of a mask. It is not so much the monster as the monstrous connections between naked/masked, artificial/real, male/female which produce an unusual view of bodies that we actually already know. The monsters are not a species we can become familiar with; they disappear and slip away without our being able to focus on them properly.
