Accademia Nazionale di Danza
From anatomical tables to movement
November 20, 2019

Luana Poggini, professor of anatomy, AND
Ilaria Severi, professor of physio-technics, AND

Inspired by the exhibition and the context in which it takes place, this event attempts to explain to the public in attendance the substantial differences between the study of systematic anatomy (which describes the form, the intimate structure and the arrangement of the organs, apparatuses and systems in the human body) and the study of anatomy applied to dance, which students of the Accademia Nazionale di Danza have been studying for over 30 years in their three- and two-year specialisations.
A dancer’s final aim is “body awareness”, an indispensable tool for the improvement of the “quality of movement” in any dance form or style. With this in mind, an initial theory introduction will be followed by members of the public being invited – with the aid of a group of our students – to join in the practical experimentation involving the search for conscious, personal and physiologically-correct movements.
